22.6.20 - Important Information Regarding Covid-19 Testing

We have been informed that Hounslow will be hosting a Mobile Testing Unit for coronavirus testing for residents at Grasshoppers' Rugby Club, Osterley, on Tuesday 23rd June and Wednesday 24th June 2020.

Mobile Testing Units are an essential part of the national testing programme as they offer pedestrian appointments as well as drive-through appointments.

You must register via the gov.uk portal before attending a mobile testing unit and bring your 16-digit code or appointment confirmation with you on your mobile phone.

Testing site location:

Grasshoppers Rugby Club

Syon Ln

Osterley

Isleworth

TW7 5PN

Criteria for testing:

Anyone over the age of 5 who is symptomatic is now able to receive a test at one of the testing centres. You should be within the first 5 days of symptoms when you have your test, as otherwise it is not effective.

Coronavirus symptoms are:

·               a high temperature

·               a new, continuous cough

·               a loss of or change to your sense of smell or taste

This test can tell you if you have coronavirus at the time the swab sample is taken. The test to tell if you’ve ever had coronavirus (‘antibody test’) is not available yet.

Book an appointment:

Appointments are open for both Tuesday 23rd June and Wednesday 24th June at Grasshoppers' Mobile Testing Unit from 8pm on Monday 22nd June via the nhs.uk link:

https://www.nhs.uk/ask-for-a-coronavirus-test

If you would like a pedestrian appointment at the Mobile Testing Unit, please put “unknown” in the box requiring your vehicle registration number. This should allow you to continue the booking process.

If you have any problems refer to the helpline detailed below, or you can use the 16-digit authorisation code that is sent you via SMS and go to the testing centre anytime on foot or in a car between 10.30 and 15.30 where local authority staff will help you.

The testing centre will be operating between 10.30-15.30 on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

Alternative testing provision

Please note that if an appointment is not available at the Grasshoppers’ site, then the same testing criteria apply for bookings at the Twickenham testing site and they operate 7 days a week. They do however only offer drive-in appointments.

There are also home testing kits available, bookable via the same website: https://www.nhs.uk/ask-for-a-coronavirus-test

Questions or problems

If anyone has any problems booking via the portal, please contact the National Coronavirus Testing Helpline on 0300 303 2713

Capacity for testing is limited so is released on an hourly basis; it is recommended to try at regular intervals to access an appointment.

If you are displaying coronavirus symptoms you must self-isolate for one week from the start of the symptoms, and members of your household should isolate for two weeks from the start of your symptoms. If you are showing symptoms.

If you have any questions about testing, please contact publichealth@hounslow.gov.uk

Changes to plans for wider re-opening to Years 10 and 12

The Prime Minister has announced that secondary schools should plan on the basis that from the week commencing 15th June 2020, we can invite year 10 and 12 pupils back into school in small groups for some face-to-face support with their teachers, subject to the government’s 5 tests being met.

We will not, therefore, be opening more widely from the 1st June 2020 as previously planned.

Thank you for your understanding as we respond to national changes and thank you in advance for understanding that we may need to make further changes should the national guidance change.

In line with government guidance, we will be offering this face-to-face support to supplement remote education with Google Classrooms for year 10 and year 12 students. Google Classrooms will remain the predominant mode of education during this term for pupils in these year groups. This is in addition to the vulnerable pupils and children of critical workers currently attending from other year groups.

We have, therefore, amended our wider plan for students in Years 10 and 12 to return to Rivers Academy. A personalised invitation for your child will be posted to you. If  you have not received this personalised invitation by Friday 12th June 2020, please email us at advice@rivers-aspirations.org.\

Potential postponement to wider re-opening

Following potential changes announced by the Prime Minister at the weekend, it is increasingly unlikely that we will be opening more widely to additional children in Years 10 and 12 next week. Following the announcement on 28th May 2020 we will update our website with confirmation of plans as soon as possible.

Thank you for your ongoing understanding.

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have spent the majority of the last few days chasing the FSM vouchers for our families from the DfE provider Edenred.  We understand, the issues we are experiencing, like many schools are being addressed but due to the volume of requests it is taking longer than anticipated.

We have today contacted the Local Authority who provided the Easter vouchers and they have informed us they would be able to provide vouchers in approximately 48 hours.  We have made the decision to accept their proposal and we are grateful to Hounslow Council for their support with this.  We have today passed the information required to Sodexo, the Council's provider, and they will email vouchers directly to the families.  It is hoped this will be sent in the next couple of days.  As soon as we have further information we will keep you posted.  Vouchers will then arrive weekly on a Monday for each eligible child.

Please be assured that we are doing everything possible to chase these up for families.

The government have updated their gudance on supporting children and young people's mental health and wellbeing. The link this informatoin can be found here:  https://tinyurl.com/y9n49dgj

You may have seen on the BBC news website, the problems schools are having with the vouchers system set up by the DfE.  We want to assure you that we are doing everything we possibly can to speed up and chase the vouchers for our families.  These will be sent to you as soon as we receive them.

ChatHealth Hounslow Poster

We are aware that these extraordinary times may well place a large strain on our families. Should you require support from food banks during this time we are able to make referrals for you. For further support in this please email: safeguarding@rivers-aspirations.org and one of our safeguarding team will be in contact to support you.

We have been informed that some parents have received an email stating the following:

‘As schools will be closing, if you're entitled to free school meals, please send your bank details and we'll make sure you're supported’.

This is a scam email – it is not from a local authority. Please do not respond to it, and delete immediately, share this message with others.

Thank you sincerely for following government advice in keeping your child at home wherever this is at all possible. It is so important that each of us plays our part in the country's fight to defeat the virus.

Late last night the Government published guidance for maintaining education settings, giving information about the definition of key workers. Information for parents and carers was published at the same time.

The principle is that if children can stay safely at home, they should, to limit the chance of the virus spreading. The Government is asking parents to keep their children at home, wherever possible – schools will remain open only for those children who absolutely need to attend.
