All students at Rivers Academy West London are entitled to an education that enables them to develop their full potential intellectually, physically, aesthetically, creatively, emotionally, spiritually and socially. We aim to  stretch and challenge  our students in the context of an inspiring education that gives them the requisite skills for success in life. Our HAPs provision revolves around creating a dynamic, innovative  and supporting environment that empowers students to excel academically, grow as individuals and  become responsible global citizens. We prioritise individualised learning, holistic development and a commitment to academic excellence.

We Recognise that each student is unique. Staff aim to tailor educational experiences to meet individual needs and abilities. We aim to offer advanced courses, enrichment programs, and opportunities for independent research to ensure that every student reaches their full potential.

  • We aim to strategically manage, review and evaluate the HAPs process.
  • We will identify students in the HAPs category.
  • We aim to encourage greater enterprise, self-reliance and independence.
  • We aim to enable our HAPs students to realise their potential through learning matched to their needs by  promoting differentiated learning at all levels.
  • We aim to offer them opportunities to develop their skills and talents through application, analysis, evaluation and building creativity.
  • We aim to involve parents/carers in the educational process.
  • We aim to monitor their progress while linking their  prior learning with  other subjects e.g. through problem solving and critical thinking
  • We aim to support our most able with trained staff.

We acknowledge that exceptional ability may be subject specific, or more general, or in a specific skill area. Ability can be usefully grouped as follows:

  • Mathematical-number manipulation, logical and sequential processes
  • Linguistic-reading, writing, speaking, listening, factual recall
  • Musical-music appreciation, singing, instrumental
  • Physical-fine and gross motor skills, sports, creativity
  • Naturalist-hierarchical ordering, awareness of the natural world
  • Visual and special-observation, artistic appreciation
  • Social-relationships, leadership.
  • Personal-self-awareness, leadership

Students who have been identified as having talent or exceptional abilities are encouraged to reach their full potential both in and out of the classroom. All lessons are differentiated appropriately to stretch and challenge those students on the school’s most able register. Pupils are also given mentoring and the opportunity to participate in a variety of extra-curricular events organised by the team, as well as departments and Year Teams. Events are also planned for students to increase their understanding of global concerns as well as their leadership and teamwork skills. The primary objective of the Academy is to continue to develop a wide range of new learning and teaching classroom tactics that will help those students recognised as being the most able.

Sixth Form students are coached and guided in their efforts to get admission to major universities and medical schools such as Imperial and Oxford. Pupils are encouraged to attend a variety of lectures and study skills courses aimed at improving their critical thinking abilities and capacity to study independently.
